If the asking price for Tyler Glasnow is this high, count the Reds out.

MLB Insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today may have just revealed what the asking price is for Tampa Bay Rays starter Tyler Glasnow. And if those reports are accurate, the Cincinnati Reds should cut off all communication with Tampa Bay's front office

According to Nightengale, Christopher Morel's name came in trade conversations between the Rays and the Chicago Cubs. For those who don't follow the Cubs, Morel is one of the more talented, young players in Chicago's organization.

This deal would be akin to the Reds giving up TJ Friedl or Spencer Steer in exchange for Glasnow. That's an absurd asking price for a pitcher who's little more than a rental and will cost $25 million in 2024.

The Cincinnati Reds have been in the market for a frontline starter. But Cincinnati would be better off chasing a pitcher like Dylan Cease of the Chicago White Sox if the Tampa Bay Rays think they're going to swindle another team out of that much in return for Tyler Glasnow.

Not only is Christopher Morel a very talented player, he's also under team control for five more seasons. Under no circumstances should any ball club give up a controllable, young player like Morel in exchange for an injury-prone starter like Glasnow.

Maybe this is just the feeling-out process, but if these discussions are actually going to the next-level, then Nick Krall and the Reds just need to walk away.

Tyler Glasnow has been named as potential trade target for the Cincinnati Reds this offseason, but free agents like Eduardo Rodriguez, Seth Lugo, and Michael Wacha present the club with very similar profiles and won't cost a thing in terms of prospect captial.
