The National Baseball Hall of Fame class of 2025 was announced on Tuesday with Ichiro Suzuki, CC Sabathia, and Billy Wagner all headed to Cooperstown this summer. A couple of Cincinnati Reds pitchers (Hunter Greene and Andrew Abbott) offered congratulations to their fellow pitchers and mentors.

Greene took to X to congratulate his friend and mentor (Sabathia) on his recent election into Cooperstown. Greene spent time with Sabathia through USA Baseball’s DREAM Series, an amateur learning camp for developing players. Greene later joined Sabathia, appearing as a guest during the camp in 2024. Greene is well on his way to stardom, and it would not be a crazy thought to think that he has goals to join Sabathia in Cooperstown one day.

Wagner, a former closer for the Houston Astros, has ties to another arm in the Reds’ rotation. Abbott referred to Wagner as a family friend, and thanked him for all his advice that he has passed on to Abbott. Wagner coached Abbott’s travel team when Abbott was a teenager.

Abbott revealed that his father and Wagner were two of his biggest role models growing up. The left-hander tried to emulate longtime major league pitcher Cole Hamels and and former Cy Young Award winner Cliff Lee. But Abbott said Wagner had the biggest impact on his career.

Greene and Abbott look to be two of the Reds' most important starters heading into the 2025 season. New Reds manager Terry Francona will surely look to both pitcher as key members of Cincinnati's rotation once the season begins.

Reds’ pitchers were just two of many to send congratulation remarks to the recently enshrined Hall of Famers. Given personal connections, perhaps Greene and Abbott can use some advice they have received from the Hall of Famers along their own professional journey.
