If you don't understand the current situation involving Diamond Sports Group and Major League Baseball, welcome to the club. Bally Sports Cincinnati has been the home for Reds baseball the past several seasons, but the regional sports network landscape is changing.

Diamond has been tied up in bankruptcy court for quite some time, and their recent partnership has certainly rubbed MLB the wrong way. Bally Sports will become FanDuel Sports Network later this month, and that has the league up in arms.

Muddled Reds' 2025 broadcast situation could gain clarity soon

According to Evan Drellich of The Athletic (subscription required), MLB was unaware of the naming rights deal in place between Diamond and FanDuel. James Bromley, an attorney for the league said, “It is critical to Major League Baseball and its clubs that they be in the middle of any conversations with respect to the integration of online sports betting with their sports content.”

At the moment, it appears as though the only clubs Diamond is looking to maintain heading into the 2025 season are the Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins. However, the future broadcasting rights of the Cincinnati Reds and five other franchises are tied up in these legal proceedings.

Diamond has already dropped the Cleveland Guardians, Milwaukee Brewers, Texas Rangers, and Minnesota Twins ahead of next season. After Diamond cut ties with San Diego Padres last year, MLB stepped in an helped facilitate the team's broadcast. That could very well be on the table for the Reds, and a number of other teams in 2025 depending on how the legal proceedings play out.

The big court date is coming next month with a confirmation hearing scheduled for Nov. 14. It's been previously reported that MLB and Diamond are in negotiations and are hopeful to get in a good place before the hearing.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred has been firm in his stance that baseball will be available to fans one way or another. Don't let this broadcast situation take away your excitement, Reds fans. It may look messy now, but these things have a way of working themselves out.
