Joey Votto's playoff picks deliver hilarious jabs at Cubs and Yankees

Six-time All-Star and former Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto will be part of the NBC broadcast team for the National League Wild Card Series between the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies. Votto has made quite the name for himself during his post-playing career thanks in part to his playful and interactive personality on social media.

But Votto undoubtedly ruffled the feathers of both the Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees fanbases with his playoff prognostications. The former NL MVP predicted an early-exit for both the Cubbies and the Bronx Bombers, and did so in the most Votto-like way imaginable.

Predictably, Votto turned his attention to his former rival, the Cubs, first. The Cubs' social media team put together a video montage meant to fire up the fanbase before the start of their upcoming series against the San Diego Padres. Votto felt the need to tamp down the excitement in the Windy City.

"Let me check Surfline for you. You can stay in the area post series, enjoy the waves. It’s beautiful in SD this time of year. Pads in 2," Votto responded on X (formerly Twitter).

As for the Yankees, Votto's jab was a bit more comical, and played off New York's postseason slogan. The Yankees' hype video features to the mantra, "One Team. One City. One Goal. This is the Postseason."

Votto responded by writing, "One round. Sox in 3."

Votto has always been a rather cerebral individual. He was very calculated with his comments as a player, and oftentimes a response to an inquiry from the media would leave you feeling as though you actually learned something scholarly from a professional athlete.

But Votto also has a light-hearted playfulness — something he kept hidden throughout most of his career. But doing an interview for MLB Network dressed up as a Canadian mountie and his "Gym Day with Jim Day" conversation with Reds' on-air personality Jim Day revealed his fun-loving spirit.

The Reds were eliminated from the playoffs a few weeks ago, and it'll be back to drawing board for Nick Krall, Terry Francona, and Co. this offseason. Nevertheless, if you want to liven up your afternoon on Tuesday and Wednesday, tune into the Braves Wild Card matchup against the Phillies. At least Votto is likely to add some humor to your MLB playoff viewing experience.
