Cubs collapse is tied to old Pete Crow-Armstrong antics that will delight Reds fans

Who's laughing now, PCA?

When it comes to the Cincinnati Reds' biggest rivals, nobody tops the St. Louis Cardinals. But the Chicago Cubs are a close-second, so the North Siders' 10-game losing streak undoubtedly brings unspeakable joy to the hearts and minds of the fans throughout Reds Country.

Moreover, Reds fans are sure to find enjoyment in the fact that the Cubs' so-called star, Pete Crow-Armstrong, and his off-color antics have been at the center of Chicago's embarrassing losing streak.

PCA, an acronym that I'm sure the majority of Reds fans have had some fun with over the years, was embroiled in a bit of controversy with a Chicago White Sox fan over a week ago, and has also found himself on the wrong side of some pretty heinous defensive gaffes throughout the Cubbies' 10-game skid.

And while it's difficult to mark one moment in time when Crow-Armstrong's foolish behavior really derailed Chicago's winning ways, his childish dancing inside the Cubs' clubhouse following a sweep of the Reds at the beginning of the month has coincided with his team's demise. The Cubs are now 3-14 since PCA's jig went viral on Alex Bregman's TikTok account, and the Reds have past them in the standings.

Reds have surged since losing to Pete Crow-Armstrong & the Cubs

Heading into play on Wednesday night in Flushing, the Reds are 29-25, have won three straight games, and five of their last six. Depending on the results from series finale against the New York Mets, and the outcome of the Wednesday's game between the Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers, Cincinnati could be sitting in second place in the NL Central before retuning home to face the Atlanta Braves this weekend.

The Cubs had the Reds' number of the beginning of May; no doubt about it. But it should be stated that three of those four games were one-run affairs, and two of them went to extra innings. The Cubs have only led in two of their last 90 innings played. Cincinnati's 2-10 record against division opponents is alarming, but Chicago's 5-7 mark against the NL Central isn't much better.

It's a long season, and the NL Central is going to be a grind until the bitter end. The Reds and Cubs won't meet again until just before the All-Star break, and the standings could see-saw back and forth until then. Or the curse of PCA's locker room jig might have Chicago riding a 50-game losing streak when they arrive in the Queen City.
