And then, there were two. The latest Trevor Bauer rumors suggest the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers are the final two teams in the mix for the Cy Young-winner’s services. According to FanSided’s Robert Murray, Bauer is in talks with the Mets, while Mark Feinsand of MLB.com claims the Dodgers are also in the mix.

Bauer’s agent, Rachel Luba, tweeted that it’s down to two, so it seems pretty clear that the rumors are true. The Cincinnati Reds have long since been out of the Trevor Bauer sweepstakes to sign the 30-year-old to a longterm contract.

Are the Trevor Bauer rumors coming to an end?

According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, the New York Mets are the current favorites to land Bauer, but I wouldn’t count out his hometown Los Angeles Dodgers. And, while we haven’t heard from them in sometime, I’m still not sold that the Los Angeles Angels are out of the race just yet.

Bauer brought the Cincinnati Reds franchise its first Cy Young-winner in the team’s history. There were five occasions over the years that a member of the Reds finished second to eventual winner. Tom Seaver, Mario Soto, Danny Jackson, Pete Schourek, and Johnny Cueto all finished just behind the No. 1 spot.

There’s a chance that whichever of the two teams, the Mets or Dodgers, sign Bauer, that team will be installed as the favorite to win the NL pennant. The Dodgers are the reigning World Series champions, but New York has added several key pieces this offseason, including All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor.

Bauer put up career numbers in 2020 and has been the best available pitcher on the free agent market all offseason. There were whispers earlier this winter that Bauer may consider a one-year contract, but it appears both the Mets and Dodgers have multi-year offers on the table.

Next. Siani is poised for breakout season

With the Trevor Bauer rumors soon coming to an end, perhaps as early as Friday according to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the Cincinnati Reds faithful will officially be able to move on from last year’s Cy Young Award-winner. The Reds still have a strong starting rotation with the likes of Luis Castillo and Sonny Gray.
