The FanSided MLB division is gathering for a simulated Winter Meeting this week. What mock trades might the Cincinnati Reds make during this simulation?

Attention Cincinnati Reds fans, while Major League Baseball’s Winter Meetings are still several weeks away, the MLB division at FanSided is going to accelerate the process a bit this week. All of the MLB sites throughout the FanSided network will be participating this week in a simulation of the Winter Meetings.

That’s right, Dick Williams and Nick Krall will not be in charge this week…figuratively speaking. In this simulation of the 2018 Winter Meetings, writers from every FanSided site throughout the league will don their GM hats and try to improve their team for the better.

What does that mean for your Cincinnati Reds? Quite simply, it means it’s time to right the ship. Cincinnati has been in rebuild mode for the past five years and Reds Country is growing tired of 90-plus loss seasons. It’s time to compete, right?

  • Before you get too excited, let me just say that while this is a simulation, there are rules. So, while the Reds payroll is said to increase this year, we’re not going to go crazy and take on massive salaries. This is meant to be fun, but at the same time realistic, so don’t expect any heavy spending from the Reds.

There’s also no options, no-trade clauses, incentive or signing bonuses when it comes to free agents. To make it simple, a free agent’s salary will be the average of the total contract. For instance, if the Reds make a mock free agent of 4 years/ $20 million, said player’s salary will be $5 million per year. Got it?

Trades are a part of this simulation as well. Prospects are available, as are veterans, but remember that we’re trying to keep this simulation as realistic as possible. In other words, Joey Votto‘s not going anywhere.

But are there others that could be on the trade block? Will some team in this simulation coming looking to snag one of the Reds’ top prospects? Will Nick Senzel, Shed Long, or Hunter Greene be on the mind of another faux GM?

So what kind of trades, free agent signings, etc. might Reds fans see in this simulation? Will there be a major trade for a front-of-the-rotation starter? Could one of your favorite players be on the move? Will one of the pitchers with an albatross of a contract who only won one game last season still be on the team at the conclusion of these simulated Winter Meetings?

Next. If your favorite players were The Avengers, who might they be?

The simulation of the FanSided’s MLB Winter Meetings begins this Wednesday. Stay tuned to Blog Red Machine this week to find out what mock free agent signings were made and who may have found a new home outside of the Queen City.
