Good morning and welcome to a Thursday edition of Blog Red Machine’s news and notes. The Cincinnati Reds have recalled pitcher Cody Reed, Homer Bailey finally got a win and more.

The Cincinnati Reds won another series yesterday after defeating the Chicago White Sox 7-4. The Reds are 4-0-1 in their last 5 series, splitting only the 4-game series against the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers. Let’s take a look at some recent news and notes regarding your Cincinnati Reds.

Cody Reed and Tanner Rainey are back. Pitchers Cody Reed and Tanner Rainey were called up from Triple-Louisville over the Fourth of July holiday. Reed and Rainey will take the spots of Dylan Floro, who was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Brandon Dixon, who was optioned to the Louisville Bats.

Reed started 10 games for the Reds in 2016. His record that year was 0-7 with a 7.36 ERA. With the Bats this season, Reed started 12 games with a 4.57 ERA. In 69 innings pitched, Reed recorded 62 strikeouts and 24 walks.

Reed is unlikely to become a starter, even if Matt Harvey is traded in the near future. The lefty is more likely to take the long reliever role that Floro occupied out of the bullpen.

Tanner Rainey, the Reds’ second-round pick in the 2015 MLB Draft, is also on his way back to the big leagues. In 6 relief appearances this season, Rainey owns a 13.50 ERA. Rainey, in 6 innings pitched, allowed 9 runs, 9 walks, and 2 home runs.

However, since being demoted to Louisville, Rainey’s played in 25 games, pitched 28.2 innings and has a 1.57 ERA. Rainey has a 2:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio with the Bats and has a 1.15 WHIP. Rainey gives the Reds another right-handed option out of the bullpen.

Homer Bailey finally gets a win. Homer Bailey, who’s been on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville since June 11th, finally got his first win for the Bats. Bailey hurled 6.2 innings, allowed only 1 earned run and struck out 8 batters.

Bailey has struggled since arriving in Louisville last month. Going into Tuesday’s game for the Bats, Bailey was carrying an 8.44 ERA and had struck out only 6 batters.

Reds still rolling. The Cincinnati Reds won another series yesterday, this time against the Chicago White Sox. Cincinnati exploded with a 6-run 4th inning and went on to win the game 7-4. The Reds have won 4 of their last 5 series, and the lone series they didn’t win was a series they split with Milwaukee.
