Cincinnati Reds’ Rumors – Scott Feldman’s performance puts him in market
The Cincinnati Reds are beginning to see a little interest in Scott Feldman because of solid string of starts.
After bouncing around a bit in the first two months of the season, Scott Feldman has solidified his performance over the course of June. After having trouble consistently pitching innings the first two months of the season, Feldman went longer in June. He also gave up fewer runs.
In June Feldman averaged six innings per start, going 3-1 over six starts. He also had an ERA for the month of 2.97. Control may be the leading factor as he had a season low WHIP for a month of 1.21.
Prior to June, Feldman was averaging just over five innings per start and had a .500 record at 4-4. Even as the offense scored less in June, Feldman was more successful. He had 29 strikeouts in June after 27 in May and 24 in April.

This is what the Reds signed up for when they signed Feldman as a free agent this off-season. He advertised himself as a steadying force on a young staff that could eat innings in an effective manner. Now the Reds are finally seeing the fruit of their patience as Feldman is producing like the number one starter and Opening Day starter that Feldman supposedly is.

The Cincinnati Reds haven’t taken calls on Zack Cozart yet, but have taken calls on their veteran pitchers.
It is a bit difficult to read the tea leaves this early in the trading season, but the Reds haven’t been hiding their plans too much. Cozart won’t be moved until after the All-Star Game. The Reds don’t want the bad publicity from doing that.
On the pitching front, there are really only three veteran pitchers in Feldman, Tony Cingrani, and Drew Storen.
Cingrani is still proving that he is healthy leaving Feldman and Storen as the center of attention. Storen has been linked to several teams, but nothing substantial.
Meanwhile, Feldman’s name has started coming up in rumors, although nothing serious. His name has come up as a potential number five starter for a contending team down the stretch. Last month he was staying in Cincinnati or maybe moving on as as a long reliever.
Next: Who will be in the rotation at the end of the season?
Now Feldman is all but on his way out. He has earned his chance to return to the American League where there is a shortage of starters in both the East and West. Feldman could end up there or anywhere that eating innings is important.
