The Cincinnati Reds continue their work within the local community when the Chicago Cubs next come to town.
The Cincinnati Reds, Channel 5, and the Reds’ flagship station, WLW, are partnering to “Strike Out Hunger” across Greater Cincinnati, led by weekend morning anchor, Megan Mitchell.
The below was announced by St. Vincent de Paul’s Community Relations Department
"The (Reds) are hosting a food donation drive when the Reds play the Chicago Cubs next. That is on Friday, June 30 (7:10 p.m.) and Saturday, July 1 (4:10 p.m.) at Great American Ball Park. Fans who donate a minimum of three non-perishable food items can get a free Reds ticket. They must donate items from the time gates open (90 minutes before first pitch) through the 4th inning. Then they are eligible to receive a free ticket to an upcoming Reds game, limit one ticket per person.Donation barrels will be located outside the ballpark’s main entrance on Crosley Terrace. The goal is to collect more than last year.“Summer is a critical time for struggling families,” said Mike Dunn, Executive Director, St. Vincent de Paul – Cincinnati. “When schools are out, too many families must choose between buying groceries and paying their rent. This drive helps keep our food pantries stocked so families don’t have to make that choice.”"

They continued to say:
"The generosity of Reds fans at the 2016 “Strike Out Hunger” food drive was great. St. Vincent de Paul collected 7,250 pounds of food. That provided more than 4,800 meals to struggling families in Cincinnati. SVDP operates food pantries throughout Cincinnati. Those include the Edyth and Carl Lindner Choice Food Pantry in the West End and eight neighborhood-based pantries. To learn more about the Reds Food Drive for SVDP, contact Reds Community Relations at 513-765-7018. This is in addition to the work the Reds Community Fund does. For more information about donating, visit SVDPcincinnati.org or call 513-421-HOPE (4673)."

St. Vincent de Paul has been working for the Cincinnati Reds and within the community for years.
The local society works with Greater Cincinnati and Hamilton County residents to provide practical emergency support to neighbors in need. It has been doing this for 148 years in Cincinnati with associations across the nation. SVDP focuses on local community based approach.
SVDP’s primary role is to support people on the edge. These are neighbors who are in danger of losing their apartments or homes. They may need to choose between paying their electric or eating.
The support network includes nine food pantries and seven thrift stores and donation centers set-up across Greater Cincinnati. In addition to their food drive, SVDP has other work to do this summer. They are asking for donations to buy fans and air conditioning units. They also are hosting a golf outing at Clovernook Country Club on July 31st.

It is fitting for the oldest professional team in baseball. The Reds work with a community group that has been active as long as SVDP has been. These sort of connections existed in Cincinnati long before the chili. Don’t forget to bring donations and friends to the games on June 30 and July 1. Support the Reds and your neighbors.
