Cincinnati Reds’ Amir Garrett looks to return to form in his second start off of the DL and now faces a challenging Dodgers lineup.
The Cincinnati Reds will have one of their best young starters looking to get back on track to start their road trip. Garrett has gone through some growing pains, but he still has the makings of a quality starter. The south-paw was rated the #39 best prospect in all the MLB during the preseason.
The Reds have faired well in the mediocre NL Central, partly due to their offense being the sixth in the league according to ESPN. Cincinnati’s offense has been great, but the pitching side of things is having trouble. On the other side of the ball, the pitching is twenty-seventh in the majors. Now in the Reds defense, the team is utilizing a plethora of young starters. These pitchers include Tim Adleman, Jake Buchanan, and Asher Wojciechowski.
Between those players on the starting staff, Amir Garrett has the most upside.
In 2011, the Reds took Garrett in the 22nd round of the MLB draft. Basketball was still in Amir’s mind. In 2014, he fully committed to the sport and started out in Low-A. He pitched to the tune of a 3.65 ERA in 133.1 innings pitched. His K/9 was steady, at 8.57. Exceeding that, the next year at High-A was dominant. The southpaw pitched with a 2.44 ERA in 26 games, with a couple more innings pitched at 140.

In addition, 2016 was an elite year for Garrett in Double-A. His ERA was even lower than 2015, at a miniscule 1.75. Amir only did it in only 77 innings, but he was able to find newfound control of his secondary pitches.
Overall, Amir Garrett will possibly be the next great rotation arm. For now, he’ll continue adapt to the league as they have to him.
Amir Garrett’s first start back from the DL for the Cincinnati Reds was not successful.
Garrett returned from the DL to face the Atlanta Braves. The game marked a return for Garrett from the DL and the end of the series that saw Brandon Phillips return to Cincinnati for the first time since his offseason trade. Unfortunately, it did not see Garrett return to his early season form.
