Starting in place of Mat Latos once again, young Daniel Corcino will get his opportunity to showcase his electric right arm.
In Corcino’s first Major League start against the Milwaukee Brewers on September 12, he would toss six innings of two-hit, two-run baseball, in which he would walk just one and strikeout four. The club would go on to drop the game 3-2 in the ninth inning, leaving Corcino with a no decision.
It was on August 26 that Corcino made his Major League debut against these very same Chicago Cubs. Having drawn comparisons to nearly every right-hander from the Dominican Republic, the shoes Corcino is expected to fill are big—especially for a prospect that has not come with a gigantic amount of hype.
Pitching for future consideration in the rotation, and potentially making the club out of Spring Training in 2015, Corcino gets to make a start Wednesday night at the iconic Wrigley Field.
Here is the lineup he will face via the team’s Twitter account:
LF – Chris Coghlan (0-for-1)
SS – Javier Baez (yet to face Corcino)
1B – Anthony Rizzo (yet to face Corcino)
RF – Jorge Soler (yet to face Corcino)
3B – Luis Valbuena (yet to face Corcino)
C – Welington Castillo (0-for-1, 1 K)
2B – Chris Valaika (0-for-1, 1 K)
CF – Ryan Kalish (yet to face Corcino)
P – Kyle Hendricks (yet to face Corcino)

If the name Kyle Hendricks rings a ball, it’s more than likely because it should. Hendricks made his Major League debut back on July 10 at Great American Ball Park, ultimately earning a no decision.
In that first start, he allowed four earned runs in just six innings, one of the two times all season he has given up that many runs in a start. Running off a string of six consecutive, and seven out of eight, quality starts; Hendricks has shown himself to be a viable member of the Cubs’ rotation in the near future.
Having made five career starts at Wrigley Field, Hendricks already posts an impressive 1.59 ERA, while having allowed only a single home run in 28.1 innings of work.
Uncharacteristically of the Cubs offense, the young right-hander has been handed runs by the boatload. In seven of his 11 starts, his offense has scored him more than six runs. Not surprisingly, he is 4-0 with a 2.59 ERA in such instances.
Here is the lineup he will face via the team’s Twitter account:
SS – Kristopher Negron (yet to face Hendricks)
3B – Ramon Santiago (1-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 K)
CF – Yorman Rodriguez (yet to face Hendricks)
LF – Ryan Ludwick (3-for-3, 1 HR, 2 RBI)
RF – Donald Lutz (yet to face Hendricks)
1B – Jack Hannahan (yet to face Hendricks)
2B – Jake Elmore (yet to face Hendricks)
C – Tucker Barnhart (0-for-2, 1 BB, 1 K)
P – Daniel Corcino (yet to face Hendricks)

Coming off of what was an embarrassing offensive performance the past two evenings, the lineup shakeup from manager Bryan Price was not unexpected. Only Ramon Santiago returns from Tuesday night’s lineup, which was nearly no-hit by Jake Arrieta.
In the series finale, two young right-handers in Corcino and Hendricks meet as these two clubs have their final meeting of the season.
