Another week has come to a close so it is again time to name the Dragon of the Week for the period from 6/3 until 6/10. Before we dig into the box scores lets recap our past winners.
Our inaugural Dragon of the Week honors were bestowed on Catcher Tucker Barnhart who is still leading the team in batting average. During the week he had 9 hits in 20 at bats and generally led the offense. Week 2 was a bit more competitive with Billy Hamilton receiving recognition for his retooled approach at the plate. He went 9-29 with 5 runs scored, 8 runs batted in, 4 stolen bases, 3 doubles, and 2 triples. He narrowly defeated starter Josh Smith who gave up only 2 runs in 2 starts earning 2 wins over the course of the week.
That is where we have been lets look at the latest week and select our third BRM Dragon of the Week.
We are going to try something a bit different this week. I am going to present 4 choices and I am going to ask for your votes over the next two days and the player receiving the most votes will earn the title. I will present a paragraph on each player and allow you to vote at the end.
Our first contestant is big Juan Duran. The 6’7′” left fielder returned to the Dragons after a recovering from a stint on the 7 day DL with a strained hamstring. He only appeared in 3 games earning 3 hits on 9 at bats with a run scored and a run batted in as well as a double. His numbers do not represent a significant contribution but his return is good news for the team.
Next up is a nomination for starting right hander Daniel Corcino who through 12.1 innings of shutout baseball in two starts. He went 1-0, threw 18 strikeouts and giving up only 2 earned runs.
Our third nominee is speedy shortstop Billy Hamilton who had another very busy week. Of significance regarding Billy he is the only player on the Dragons to appear in each of the last 15 games. This week he continued to raise his batting average going 10-32 for a .313 average with a double, 4 runs scored and 2 runs batted in. He did commit another error. The question with Billy typically returns to the number of stolen bases and this week did not disappoint he stole 7 bases without being caught. In spectacular fashion one June 8th one of the 3 bases he stole was home plate.
Our final contestant led the team in batting average this week hitting at a .375 clip. Second basemen Devin Lohman went 9-24 with 2 runs scored and 4 runs batted in. One of his hits was a double and he also had a stolen base. He did lead the team this week with 3 errors.
