This Reds fan favorite will be eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2024
Former Cincinnati Reds third baseman was finally elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame after six years on the ballot. Rolen will be enshrined in Cooperstown later this year along with Fred McGriff.
Rolen wasn't the only former Reds player on the ballot. Longtime Cincinnati starting pitcher Bronson Arroyo was also on the ballot. However, Arroyo received just one vote from the writers and will no longer be part of the selection process. Players must receive at least 5% of the vote in order to remain on the ballot for at least one more year.
Another former Reds player will find his way onto the Baseball Hall of Fame ballot in 2024. Fan-favorite Brandon Phillips will be up for election to Cooperstown next year. Let's examine Phillips' chances of making it into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Former Reds 2B Brandon Phillips will be on the 2024 Baseball Hall of Fame ballot.
Brandon Phillips, who began his career with the Montreal Expos, was part of a six-player trade to the Cleveland Indians in 2022. The Indians had high hopes for Phillips, but in 126 games, he hit just .206/.246/.310 with 38 RBIs.
The Indians growing frustration with Phillips eventually led to a trade. The infielder was dealt to the Cincinnati Reds prior to the 2006 season for a player to be named later. Phillips used that as motivation and turned in a terrific first season in Cincinnati.
Phillips hit .276 with 28 doubles and 17 home runs as the Reds starting second baseman in 2006. Two years later, Phillips won his first Gold Glove Award after flashing the leather on multiple occasions.
The ever-present smile, winning personality, and elite-level defense led to Phillips becoming a fixture throughout the hearts of fans in Reds Country. Phillips made it to three All-Star Games throughout his tenure, won four Gold Gloves, and took home a Sliver Slugger.
For his career, Brandon Phillips slashed .275/.320/.420 with 211 home runs. It's doubtful that Dat Dude BP will actually be enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame, but his career numbers may be enough for him to receive consideration beyond just 2024.
