2. Daniel Norris would give the Reds bullpen a strong left-hander.
Daniel Norris, a former second-round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in 2011, has put together a solid 2020 campaign. The Reds could certainly use a left-hander out of the bullpen. Cincinnati has moved on from Cody Reed, who was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays earlier this week. Jesse Biddle just landed on the injured list, meaning the Reds have just Amir Garrett as the lone lefty in the bullpen.
Norris does not become a free agent until after next season, so the price tag might be a bit higher than the Reds are willing to pay. From what we’ve seen so far, it’s a sellers market, as many teams feels as though they have a chance to compete in this wild and crazy 60-game sprint to the finish line.
Norris is 2-1 on the season with a 2.40 ERA in 15 appearances out of the Detroit Tigers bullpen. Norris has struck out 12 and owns a 1.000 WHIP and 198 ERA+. Those numbers would be quite beneficial late in games when Garrett is unavailable.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that both Austin Romine and Norris are available. Romine is of no interest to the Reds, as they’ve got Tucker Barnhart and Curt Casali behind the plate with Tyler Stephenson waiting in the wings. However, Norris can give you multiple innings and could be a sneaky candidate to get shipped to the Reds.
