After trying to improve following an All-Star appearance in 2016, Adam Duvall has done just that for the Cincinnati Reds.

After being the lone representative in the All Star Game for the Cincinnati Reds last year, Adam Duval is having a better 2017.  The only Red that has had a better two year run is perennial MVP candidate, first baseman Joey Votto.  Duvall is even chasing Votto this year.

As the season winds down, Duvall is only three home runs behind Votto for the team lead.  The duo has traded the team RBI back and forth several times this season.  They have also played the first and third most games this season.

Duvall already has as many hits this year as he did all of last year.  He has also already hit more doubles than a season ago.  His batting average is about ten points higher, but his OBP is about the same.

Duvall is on pace to set a new career high in home runs.  He is on the verge of having his second 100 RBI season in a row.  He is also just one steal away from what he did last season.

Defensively, Duvall is the prohibitive favorite for the Gold Glove in left field with Marcell Ozuna of the Miami Marlins as his competition.  Last year he lost out to Starling Marte.  This year, though, Marte spent too much of the season suspended to be under consideration for the award.

To a certain extent Duvall’s season was made in June. He batted .323 with an OBP of .375.  He hit five home runs and drove in twelve.

Duvall prepped for June with a strong July.  He batted .291 with an OBP of .326.  He had an astounding seven home runs and 28 RBIs.

July was potentially his worst month.  He only batted .198 with an OBP of .274.  Duvall managed four home runs, but a decent fourteen RBIs.

He followed up his worst month with another weak one.  Duvall batted .209 with an OBP of .264 in August.

He did hit eight home runs, but only drove in seventeen RBIs.

Duvall hasn’t done himself any favors in September, either.  He has gotten off to a .200 batting average to start the month with an OBP of .188.  With no walks yet in the month, Duvall isn’t looking good.

Last year Duvall has some troubles down the stretch.  He is having some issues again this year.  Duvall needs to right the ship to have a better 2017 than 2016.
