With the Cincinnati Reds trying to hold on to Zack Cozart in order to push tickets, where could he eventually end up?

The Cincinnati Reds want to keep for Zack Cozart as long as they can, but still trade him before the end of July.  That may cost them some of the recent offers for Cozart.  With the New York Yankees appearing out of the conversation and the Cleveland Indians beginning to look elsewhere, the Reds need to find more suitors.

The primary suitors for Cozart so far have been the Indians.  It appears that the deal was on the verge of happening several times throughout the season only to be delayed by Cozarts’ All-Star exploits.  Now the Indians are looking at former Tribe member Asdrubal Cabrera and the Reds may need to find another trade partner.

The team that has suddenly come into play is the Houston Astros. Their shortstop, Carlos Correa, injured his thumb and could miss the rest of the regular season.  They can work around the injury, but adding an elite defensive veteran couldn’t hurt them one bit.

The Boston Red Sox are suddenly in the mix too. The Red Sox are desperate enough to improve third base that they may move Xander Bogaerts there and add a shortstop.  The best true shortstop on the market is, of course, Cozart.

More from Reds Rumors

It’s not just American League teams that have contacted the Cincinnati Reds about Zack Cozart.

The Washington Nationals supposedly called all of the teams with veteran shortstops when theirs, Trea Turner, suffered an injury.  The Nationals decided that they could wait for Turner to get back.  If the Nationals hit a slow spot, though, that could change.

The Los Angeles Dodgers also took a brief look into adding Cozart.

They want to either add a second baseman or an outfielder.  Then Chris Taylor would have a steady place to play every day.  The Dodgers are also among a handful of teams that have reached out to the Reds about center fielder Billy Hamilton.

Another team that has at least checked in, ironically, is the Milwaukee Brewers.  Jonathan Villar is in the middle of the worst season of his career and Eric Sogard injured his ankle.  That means the Brewers need another middle infielder.  The teams almost certainly will not be ale to make it work, but stranger things have happened.

Next: It's about time for Robert Stephenson

Just a week ago, the clock for announcing Cozart to Cleveland was ticking down.  Now it is on pause, pending a decision by the Reds.  The Reds need to get what they can for Cozart, while they can.
