Cincinnati Reds Rumors – An Update on the Players on the Move
The Cincinnati Reds have three players that appear on the move and a few more that teams are interested in as the trade deadline approaches.
The Cincinnati Reds clearly want to move their three pending free agents, but there are other players too. The Reds have taken calls on closer Raisel Iglesias, center fielder Billy Hamilton, and Scooter Gennett. They could trade all or none, but some are more likely than others.
The Reds appear most likely to trade All-Star shortstop Zack Cozart. He has been linked to the Cleveland Indians, particularly since their second baseman Jason Kipnis went on the DL. The Reds have slowed the talks down and the Indians are now looking at a reunion with Asdrubal Cabrera, currently with the New York Mets.
Speaking of reunions, a recent trade completed by the Washington Nationals may keep a reunion from happening. Although Drew Storen ranks in the second tier of relievers, the Nationals and the Los Angeles Dodgers showed interest in him early. With the Nationals’ acquisition of a pair of relievers, the Dodgers look like a more likely landing zone for the seventh inning man.

The last potential free agent is Scott Feldman. With his knee injury his is likely to move after August 1. Boston and Houston are likely landing spots for him as a back end of the rotation starter.

After the three potential free agents, the Reds have several players that other teams want to add.
The big prize on the Reds is closer Raisel Iglesias. He interested several teams during the off-season, but the contenders are focusing on him now. The Reds are unlikely to trade him mid-season, though, as it wouldn’t maximize their return.
The Reds have also taken calls on Scooter Gennett as a back-up for several teams.
The issue is that the Reds view him as their starter right now and want matching compensation. The Reds are more likely to offer Cozart to teams instead now that the donkey day at GABP has passed.
A similar situation has developed around Billy Hamilton. The contending teams want him as a deluxe pinch hitter and fourth outfielder, but he is the Reds’ lead-off hitter. The Reds could easily trade him this off-season, but not as easily mid-season.

The Reds have some highly movable pieces. They need to focus on moving those people who won’t be around next season. The rebuild is slowly coming to an end.
