It sounds like Jonathan India is here to stay...for now. Cincinnati Reds President of Baseball Operations Nick Krall has made it very clear when it comes to Jonathan India's future - the team is not looking to trade him.

Krall has been asked about India ad naseum and his response has remained consistent. The Reds are going to listen if an inquiring team asks about India's availability, but Cincinnati is not shopping their starting second baseman.

However, Krall did open the door to India adding a new postition to his repertoire heading into next season. In an interview with MLB.com's Mark Sheldon, Krall mentioned that India could see some playing time at first base in 2024.

Reds' infielder Jonathan India could see playing time at first base

This is a terrific idea. While Christian Encarnacion-Strand is the odds-on favorite to win the position during spring training, giving Jonathan India reps at first base is a great way to enhance his value and add another dimension to next year's team.

Spencer Steer logged plenty of innings at first base last season, but it seems as though we'll see more of last year's rookie in left field heading into 2024. However, Nick Krall did mention both Steer and Tyler Stephenson as possibilities to fill in at first base as well.

Rather than an outright position change, this should be viewed as giving India the opportunity to play multiple positions, and thus find more playing time next season.

Jonathan India and Matt McLain could split time at second base, with the former University of Florida standout also getting plenty of time as the club's DH in 2024. McLain could also share playing time with Elly De La Cruz at shortstop.

McLain, Steer, Encarnacion-Strand, De La Cruz, and Noelvi Marte all saw playing time at more than one position in 2024. It's time for India to join the club.
