The Cincinnati Reds, predictably, added three of their top prospects to the 40-man roster on Tuesday, ensuring they will not be selected in next month's Rule 5 Draft.

The Reds added outfielders Rece Hinds and Jacob Hurtubise and right-handed pitcher Christian Roa to the roster. Both Hinds and Roa are former second-round draft picks, while Hurtubise was signed as a free agent in 2020.

With these three additions, the Reds roster is now full with 40 players. However, don't expect to stay there for very long with the non-tender deadline approaching later this week.

Rece Hinds and 2 other prospects added to the Reds 40-man roster

Last year, the Cincinnati Reds added Noelvi Marte, Levi Stoudt, Brandon Williamson, Elly De La Cruz, Ricky Karcher, and Lyon Richardson to the 40-man roster. This year's list was cut in half.

The deadline to protect players from the 2023 Rule 5 Draft was 6 PM ET on Tuesday. In order to keep certain players within your organization, teams must add those players to the 40-man roster.

Rece Hinds brings a power bat to the Cincinnati outfield. The slugger is likely to begin next season in the minor leagues, but if he cuts down on his strikeouts, Hinds has game-changing power.

Jacob Hurtubise is a graduate of West Point. The speedster can play all three outfield positions, but Hurtubise is much more of a hit-over-power prospect. The 25-year-old has just eight home runs in three minor league seasons.

Christian Roa will bring a four-pitch mix to the Reds stable of pitchers. The right-hander has battled injuries, but if he reaches his full potential, Roa has the ability to be a backend starter or long reliever in the majors.

A few names who were not added and will be available in the Rule 5 Draft are Tyler Callihan, Jose Acuña, and Yerlin Confidan.
