4 Reds prospects who could be written off if they fail to produce in 2023

The Cincinnati Reds have placed a lot of emphasis on the future, and that includes several prospects who've yet to ascend to the highest level in the minor leagues.
The Reds are counting on the likes of Elly De La Cruz, Noelvi Marte, and Cam Collier to help transform Cincinnati from losers into winners. But it's going to take more than just those three young prospects to get the job done.
Cincinnati's farm system is loaded with talent, but sometimes that's not enough. Packy Naughton, Alfredo Rodriguez, and Mariel Bautista were once highly-thought of, but never turned in the production the Reds were hoping for. Which four Cincinnati prospects could be written off if they fail to produce in 2023?
1. Reds prospect Tyler Callihan could be written off without productive 2023 season.
Injuries have crippled Tyler Callihan since he was drafted in the third round back in 2019. Callihan was a highly-thought of high school hitter, but lack of at-bats have seen the 22-year-old tumble down the Reds farm system rankings. According to MLB Pipeline, Callihan is still in the Top 20, but he could be written off without a productive 2023 season.
Callihan already occupies a position where the Reds have a tremendous amount of depth. Originally, it was thought that Callihan could play second or third base, but lack of arm strength will likely see the hit-first prospect play the keystone exclusively.
Tyler Callihan is hit-over-power, and in 88 games last season, the left-handed hitter slashed .250/.311/.396 with 30 extra-base hits and 15 stolen bases. But, Callihan went down swinging 80 times while splitting the season between Low-A Daytona and High-A Dayton.
Callihan could still be an impact bat on the Cincinnati Reds, but next season is shaping up to be a make or break year for the Florida native. Callihan should be fully recovered from Tommy John surgery next season and will need to prove his worth. Let's hope he's healthy enough to do that.
