Reds and Aroldis Chapman avoid arbitration; reach deal

The Cincinnati Reds and Aroldis Chapman were on the verge of heading to the arbitration table, but have agreed upon a one-year deal that will keep both sides satisfied.

Chapman will receive a salary of $8.05 million this season while pitching for the Reds.

Although the two sides came to an agreement for this upcoming year, the whole process may start over against next winter as Chapman still has one more season of arbitration eligibility before hitting the free agent market in 2017.

With the recent influx of Cuban talent that has crashed upon the Major Leagues, inking Chapman for such a low dollar figure will prove beneficial to the Reds in 2015.
