Tremendous or Tragic? Trading Big Donkey

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

April 23, 2008. Know what’s significant of that date? It’s the day Walt Jocketty became General Manger of the Cincinnati Reds. He was initially brought into the organization as a Special Advisor on January 11 of that same year. The Special Advisor role was just as it sounds: to advise the Reds within its baseball operations part of the organization. For those that remember when Jocketty was brought on board, you had to know that time for Wayne Krivsky would be short…and it was. With the recent inactivity of the Reds in making trades and/or signing free agents over the time [...]

Inter-League Play Creates Schedule Imbalance

AUTHOR: | IN: Popular, Reds, Voice of the Reds Fans | COMMENTS: None Yet

Just a quick rant here.  I have made little secret about my dislike for inter league play.  I know it exists for purely monetary reasons and as a means to expose fans to the American League but it really does change the competitive balance of the Wild Card race.  I like symmetry and I am obsessive about it.  I am sure the Reds ownership is thrilled to have the Red Sox, Blue Jays and Rays in town.  Consider how the schedule stacks up between the National League teams with a .500+ winning percentage.

Would You Give Brandon Webb a Deal?

AUTHOR: | IN: Popular, Reds | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Well, would you be willing to take the risk? Seems that ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick thinks the Reds could consider landing the 2006 NL Cy Young Award winner and former Arizona Diamondback ace. Webb was also the runner-up in 2007 (Jake Peavy) and 2008 (Tim Lincecum). If the Reds were to actually pursue Webb, Crasnick also indicates that there could be as many as six other teams willing to go after Webb. The Dodgers, Pirates, Twins and Rangers are on one tier while he puts the Reds, Nationals and Cardinals on another. Another point that Crasnick states is that the Twins [...]

Hudson Stifles Reds in Dbacks 3-1 Victory

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

When you read a blog that’s geared toward a specific team, that blog will focus on the pluses and minuses of that particular squad. I’ll do that a bit today, but if you observed the dealing that Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Daniel Hudson performed last night, you know why I’m giving this kid his due. For eight innings last evening, Hudson stymied the best offense in the NL. He limited Cincy to four hits and one walk while striking out eight Reds. In his previous outing against Cincinnati, Hudson surrendered three runs on nine hits with 10 punch-outs in seven innings. He [...]

Bad Mixture Sends Reds Over D-backs

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

Question. What happens when you take the most potent offense in the National League and put it against one of the worst bullpens in MLB history? The mixture is volatile and it also is the recipe for another come-from-behind victory for the Cincinnati Reds. Reds fans know how the offense has been performing in 2010. It seems like every time the Reds are behind, the offense finds a way to come up with big innings to snatch a win. Such was the case last night as the Reds plated four runs in both the 8th and 9th innings for the 11-7 [...]

Reds Rally Late for 6-2 Win

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Arizona Diamondbacks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Kelly Johnson two-run homer. That was all the D-backs would get. Reds starter Bronson Arroyo shut down Arizona over the next 7.1 innings and the offense finally awoke in the form of a 7th-inning solo shot by Paul Janish and a 9th-inning three spot. Janish’s blast gave the Reds a 3-2 lead and the Reds would expend the lead to 4 en route to a 6-2 victory. For the moment, we’ll forget how the Reds squandered an opportunity to add to their lead in [...]
