Top 5 Reds Trades of the Decade
It’s mid-June and one of my favorite times of each baseball season is drawing closer: the trade deadline. As such, I thought I’d scour the trades of yesteryear and compile a list of the top 5 Reds trades of the past ten years stretching from 2001-2011. I have always been a guy who likes the personnel and business side of any sport, so to me any sort of trading or free agency is fascinating. A trade can make a champion or a chump and is sometimes necessary to put a team over the top. In past years (yes, I’m referring [...]
I Don’t Get It Either
Twitter is a great tool. BRM uses it, in part, so we have another outlet for our posts. Sometimes, I jump on there to engage in conversation with Reds fans. To me, that’s a good thing. I take that back. It’s a great thing. But, like almost everything in today’s world of social media, Twitter has the hidden ability to have individuals air out their feelings on certain things. You are practically guaranteed to find a shocking revelation somewhere. And some things just don’t register too well with the reader of these tweets. Case in point, former Reds pitcher Aaron [...]

We look at Hal, Votto, Harang, and video games? Yes, we found some entertaining reads revolving around the Reds.

Playoff Pitching Possibilities: Starters
Say that three times in a row…really fast. Despite the Reds being in a funk these days, Cincy still holds a six game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals. Is it too early too look ahead at playoff pitchers? Nah. Got to plan ahead. There are four tiers in which I group the pitchers: Definite, Probable, Possible and Doubtful Definite: Bronson Arroyo – Sure his ERA may be a bit gaudy (4.05), but Arroyo also leads the Reds in wins (15). Arroyo does have a bit of postseason experience from his days in Boston. One aspect that Arroyo brings to [...]
Hudson Stifles Reds in Dbacks 3-1 Victory
When you read a blog that’s geared toward a specific team, that blog will focus on the pluses and minuses of that particular squad. I’ll do that a bit today, but if you observed the dealing that Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Daniel Hudson performed last night, you know why I’m giving this kid his due. For eight innings last evening, Hudson stymied the best offense in the NL. He limited Cincy to four hits and one walk while striking out eight Reds. In his previous outing against Cincinnati, Hudson surrendered three runs on nine hits with 10 punch-outs in seven innings. He [...]
Harang out of Rotation?
There’s a distinct possibility that Aaron Harang could have seen his last start as a Red following yesterday’s short outing. His first outing back from the DL was gutsy. No, he didn’t go the mandated 5 innings to get a win, but he did manage to at least put the Reds in a position to win the game. Yesterday? Aaron simply imploded by issuing three key walks in the bottom of the 3rd to prompt his exit as the Reds fell 10-5 to the Colorado Rockies. Harang’s first walk broke the cardinal sin, walk the opposing pitcher. The second was [...]
Missile Launched in 8-4 Win over Brewers
The greatest moment of the evening was in the top of the 8th inning with the entrance of Aroldis Chapman. There were other moments/events that occurred at Great American Ball Park last night, too. An odd occurrence. Jonny Gomes with an opposite field home run? Really? In the bottom of the 4th, Gomes went oppo to give the Reds a 4-1 lead, a lead they would never relinquish. On a slider no less. The Brewers would close to 4-3 in the next half inning as Gomes misplayed a Chris Dickerson hit into a two-run error. That would be as close [...]
Nix on DL; Volquez to Dayton
Two moves had to be made to make room for Aaron Harang and Aroldis Chapman. Outfielder Laynce Nix was placed on the DL due to his ankle and Edinson Volquez was optioned to Dayton to work on mechanics. Volquez will start tomorrow night for the Dragons. All was first confirmed by John Fay on Twitter and then on his blog. The Nix move was not a surprise at all, but the Volquez move caught me a bit off guard. Nix hasn’t been able to do much of anything since he re-aggravated the ankle in San Fran. Volquez going to Dayton [...]
