Curveball 80 MPH 12%

Mike Leake mixed and matched all of his pitches very well in his last start, arguably the best start of his career. As with the trend for most of the season he has thrown more and more cutters as the season has gone along, now up to 22% on the season and it has risen each month of the year so far.He has a career high 54% groundball rate. He has really struggled when throwing his curveball, while the cutter and fastball have both been above-average offerings.

Padres Starter: RHP Ian Kennedy

2014 Season Stats

Scouting Report

Pitch  Velocity  Usage
Fastball 93 MPH 61%
Change Up 84 MPH 14%
Cutter 86 MPH 6%
Curveball 78 MPH 18%

Ian Kennedy seems to have pitched much better than his 4.01 ERA indicates. He hasn’t had a home run problem, he has a low walk rate and his strikeout rate is among the best in the National League. His strand rate has been below-average for the last two seasons though, perhaps a sign that he struggles with men on base. He has been very successful with his fastball, a well above-average pitch this season. The cutter has been a slightly above-average offering, while the curveball and change up have both been below-average. With good control and a good fastball, the Reds will likely have their best chances on offspeed pitches from Kennedy.
