Mat Latos will be making his big league debut for the 2014 season after making two separate rehab stints in the minor leagues. When down in the minors he struggled at times with his control and he never made it through six innings, though he would have in his final appearance, going 5.2 innings with a good pitch count before rain came along and ended the game. Last season Latos worked with his fastball 61% of the time and used his slider for a fourth of the pitches he threw, while mixing in some curveballs and change ups.

Slider 88 MPH 28%

The Reds will be facing Yovani Gallardo for the second time this year. The first time, on May 3rd, they scored four runs over six innings against him with just one strikeout. He leaned heavily on his fastball that day, throwing it 70% of the time and he paid for it. It was the highest rate of fastballs he has thrown all year. Look for that to change tonight as it turned out to be a poor plan the first time around as the Reds had little problem against him, even with his fastball being his best pitch. Both his curveball and his slider have been below-average this season.
