Homer Bailey  has been turning things around lately after a rough start to the season. His velocity has picked up a bit since May rolled around and things began to warm up. He has leaned on the fastball for 70% of his pitches in each of his last three starts, while mixing in the offspeed stuff. His location has been better as well.

Scouting Report

Pitch Velocity Usage
Fastball 90 MPH 47%
Splitter 83 MPH 22%
Curveball 76 MPH 8%
Slider 81 MPH 23%

The Tim Lincecum that once dominated the National League is long gone as his velocity has dropped from the mid-to-upper 90′s to the 89-92 MPH range. Over the years he has dropped the curveball in favor of a slider that he didn’t throw when he first came to the big leagues. So far this season the only above-average pitch Lincecum has shown has been his slider, while his fastball has been well below-average and it’s probably he he has used it less and less over the years. Attacking the fastball will be the Reds best bet, but the curveball and splitter have been pitches teams have been able to take advantage of as well.
