Scouting Report

Pitch  Velocity  Usage
Fastball 94 MPH 50%
Change Up 85 MPH 17%
Cutter 90 MPH 19%
Slider 86 MPH 11%
Curveball 81 MPH 3%

Johnny Cueto had his first rough start of the year in his last outing. Heading out west to a big ballpark could be just what the doctor ordered for the Reds and Cueto to rebound. Top it off with Cueto getting an extra day of reds due to his workload and the Reds deciding to give him that extra day and he could be primed for a strong outing. As always, look for Cueto to pound the strikezone and mix hit pitches very well.

Dodgers Starter: Hyun-Jin Ryu

Scouting Report

Pitch Velocity Usage
Fastball 91 MPH 54%
Slider 84 MPH 16%
Curveball 73 MPH 9%
Change UP 82 MPH 20%

In two seasons since coming over to America, Hyun-Jin Ryu has a 3.00 ERA in each season. He works off of his fastball 54% of the time, but he mixes in his three offspeed pitches well. His fastball and slider are both above-average pitches. The curveball is a below-average pitch. Where things get interesting is that in 2013 the change up was one of the better pitches in baseball, but this year the pitch has been a below-average offering. If the Reds are going to have success, they will need to watch for the slider out of the zone and lay off of the pitch and try to take advantage of his curveball and change up if it remains a slightly below-average offering.
