Scouting Report

Pitch  Velocity  Usage
Fastball 95 MPH 61%
Split Finger 87 MPH 10%
Slider 87 MPH 21%
Curveball 80 MPH 8%

Homer Bailey  threw a lot of fastballs against the Phillies the last time out, throwing 70% fastballs in the game, which was his highest rate since his first start of the season. He also threw a season high rate of curveballs in the game, while dropping off his slider to season low rates. As has been the case with Bailey all season: when he can hit his spots, particularly with the fastball, he has had success. When he hasn’t been able to do that he has struggled to keep the opponents off of the board.

Scouting Report

Pitch Velocity Usage
Fastball 94 MPH 73%
Change Up 87 MPH 3%
Curveball 79 MPH 15%
Cutter 87 MPH 8%

Miller will be facing the Reds for the second time of the season on Friday night. He relies very heavily on his fastball, throwing it over 73% of the time. He will use his curveball as his main secondary pitch and mix in a cutter and change up every now and again. Despite his shiny ERA, Miller hasn’t really been that good this season. He is giving up a lot of home runs and walking a whole bunch of hitters while not missing many bats. At some point that is going to catch up with him and hopefully it is tonight. He leans on the fastball a lot, but it is still an above-average pitch. You should be looking for it early and often. The rest of his pitches are below-average offerings and while they don’t come often, should be pitches that the team can do damage against.
