Scouting Report

Pitch Velocity Usage
Fastball 95 MPH 59%
Cutter 88 MPH 22%
Splitter 86 MPH 9%
Curveball 78 MPH 10%

After his velocity dropping off for three starts in a row at the end of April, Simon has gotten back to his 95 MPH fastball in the last three. In his last start he really cut back on his fastball usage and supplemented it with a lot of usage of his cutter. He also relied more heavily on his curveball and slider than he has all season. With the success of his last start it will be interesting to see if he continues with that strategy or goes back to something.

Nationals Starter: RHP Tanner Roark

2014 Season Stats

Scouting Report

Pitch Velocity Usage
Fastball 92 MPH 64%
Change Up 83 MPH 10%
Slider 84 MPH 13%
Curveball 74 MPH 12%

Roark works off of his sinker 64% of the time and has been rather consistent in terms of how he mixes his offspeed stuff over his last four starts. In early April he didn’t use his change up much, but has used it 15% of the time since April 26th while cutting back on his slider to 10% of the time. His sinker has been an above-average pitch as have the curveball and change up. His slider has been below-average this season, so it may be the pitch the Reds could do the most damage on, though he has cut back on its usage.
