Pitch  Velocity  Usage
Fastball 94 MPH 50%
Change Up 85 MPH 17%
Cutter 90 MPH 19%
Slider 86 MPH 11%
Curveball 81 MPH 3%

Johnny Cueto saw his fastball velocity drop off nearly 2 MPH from his season average and he really cut off using his slider, throwing it just 3% of the time in the game as he relied heavily on his fastball, cutter and change up. Not that it mattered a bit as he threw a shutout with eight strikeouts against the Padres. As usual, Cueto will mix and match pitches well, but will work heavily with his fastball and cutter and pound the strikezone.

Scouting Report

Pitch Velocity Usage
Fastball 90 MPH 69%
Splitter 83 MPH 11%
Curveball 76 MPH 13%
Cutter 86 MPH 7%

Fister missed most of the season to this point, but is back in action and has made two starts spanning 11.1 innings. So far this season he has worked mostly with his sinking fastball in the 90 MPH range while mixing in a splitter, curveball and an occasional cutter.  He has not issued a walk yet this season, though it is just through two starts, his control has been strong like it has been in past seasons. He won’t miss a lot of bats, so the Reds should be able to make contact against him. His cutter has been a below average pitch for him in past seasons, but the rest of his pitches are quality offerings.
