Rehab update: Aroldis Chapman gets hit around again in Triple-A

Last night the Cincinnati Reds closer made his first appearance on rehab for the Triple-A Louisville Bats after spending two appearances with the Low-A Dayton Dragons. It didn’t go well as he allowed five earned runs in just 0.2 innings while walking a batter, hitting a batter and striking out a batter. This afternoon he made his second appearance and it didn’t go any better than the day before.

Chapman recorded just one out as he allowed three more runs with a walk and a strikeout. The good news is, the fastball topped out at 101 MPH and the slider was good. The bad news was the strikezone was very small and he was forced to throw the fastball over the middle of the plate and even at 97-101 MPH, guys can hit the fastball right down broadway. And the Norfolk Tide hitters did just that as they laced line drives all over the place the last two nights.

In total, over two appearances for the Triple-A Louisville Bats here is the line for Aroldis Chapman:

IP ERA H BB K HBP Pitches Strikes
1.0 72.00 7 2 2 1 54 34
