Cincinnati Reds’ Monday Affair Rained Out

After sitting through nearly an hour of a rain delay, the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs decided the elements were going to be too much.

For the first time on the season, the Reds will not be getting a game in due to adverse weather conditions.

Because it has been announced that the makeup game will come “at a later date,” it seems safe to assume the doubleheader will not be taking place tomorrow.

The Cubs are in Cincinnati through Wednesday, with the remaining two contests scheduled to be night games.  Should the rain persist into tomorrow (which it is supposed to), then the next time the Cubs come to town is July 7-10.  With four games already scheduled for that series, the two teams will be playing an old-fashioned five game set right before the All-Star break, or will push it off even longer to August 26-28, the final time the Cubs come to town.

Presumably, Alfredo Simon and Jeff Samardzija will be the pitching matchup again tomorrow evening with the way both have been pitching of late, but nothing has been officially announced.

In the best-case scenario, the rain will stay away tomorrow night, allowing the clubs to get underway at 7:10 p.m.
