Scouting Report

Change Up 86 MPH 12%
Slider 80 MPH 15%

In his last start in Chicago, Cingrani showed his lowest average velocity of the season, averaging under 91 MPH with his fastball. He still threw the pitch 73% of the time, which is what you are going to get with him. Lots and lots of fastballs, but he mixed in his slider and his change up fairly evenly during the game and has done well with mixing those two in throughout the season. He is struggling to keep guys off the bases via the walk this season, walking 11 batters over the last 15.1 innings (three starts) with just 14 strikeouts.

Pirates starter: RHP Brandon Cumpton

Scouting Report

Slider 84 MPH 24%

Brandon Cumpton will be making his 2014 debut with the Pirates after beginning the season in Triple-A. He threw 30.2 innings in 2013 with the Pirates and posted a 2.05 ERA. He doesn’t miss bats and hasn’t had a history of showing good control either, though his Triple-A walk rate this season is quite low. Cumpton generates a high rate of groundballs and generally keeps the ball in the park. In his time with the Pirates last season his change up was his best pitch, though he used it less often than his other two. Without much swing and miss stuff, the Reds should attack the fastball.
