Tampa Bay Rays vs Cincinnati Reds Pitching Match Up 4/13/14

On Sunday afternoon the Tampa Bay Rays go for a sweep and the Cincinnati Reds try to salvage something from the series. The Reds will send left hander Tony Cingrani to the mound to face off against left hander Cesar Ramos of the Rays. Ramos will be making his first start since 2012.

Change Up 86 MPH 12%
Slider 80 MPH 15%
Curveball N/A 0%

In April so far Tony Cingrani has seemingly scrapped his curveball he threw last year, having yet to throw it in two starts. He worked off of his fastball much less in his second start than in his first start and leaned more on his slider and his change up. He has had a high walk rate through two games so far this season but is still making guys swing and miss at an elite level.

Rays Starter: LHP Cesar Ramos

Scouting Report

Pitch Velocity Usage
Fastball 92 MPH 36%
Slider 84 MPH 36%
Change Up 86 MPH 23%
Curveball 72 MPH 5%

This will be the first start for Ramos since the 2012 season, so it is tough to say how he will pitch. As a reliever he throws his slider as often as his fastball, but as a starter that seems like it would be a poor choice. He mixes in his change up often as well while barely showing a curveball.
