It is still tough to give a scouting report on Alfredo Simon as a starter given that he has just one start under his belt in the last two season in the Majors. In his only start in 2014 he used his curveball far less than when he works out of the bullpen, instead relying more on his fastball and cutter, while mixing in his splitter. He was outstanding in his first game, throwing 7 innings and showing off good control.

Splitter 86 MPH 33%

Alex Cobb is a three pitch pitcher and he uses them all quite often. His fastball and splitter are both above average pitches and his curveball is average, which all help him run up a lot of strikeouts. With two strikes against a hitter he relies heavily on his splitter and rarely on his curveball. He is a big groundball pitcher, generating a 56% groundball rate in his career, which ranks as the 5th highest rate in baseball since 2011 began. When he does give up a fly ball they do leave the park frequently.
