When spoken consecutively, the four most satisfying words in the English language may indeed prove to be: Pitchers and Catchers Report.
In reality, the Reds pitching staff performing PFP is not going to change our perception of our own day nearly half a country away, but it is the idea that there are baseball activities occurring somewhere with the name “Reds” scrawled across the chest.
The countdown may now officially began to Opening Day, which is a meager 45 days away. At the worst points of winter, it seemed as if this day may never come, but knowing that in the 90 degree weather of Arizona, pitchers are throwing off mounds and getting their arms stretched out can warm the hearts of those unfortunate enough to be located further away from the Equator.
It has been a long time since October 1, 2013. The chants of “Cue-to, Cue-to!,” have subsided in most fans nightmares, and the 2014 Reds have a chance to wipe the slate clean. Last season ended with six consecutive losses, a painful blow to what was a fantastic campaign up to that point.
Each new spring provides that hopeful feeling in the air that Reds fans have become all too familiar with. Regardless of the success of the last regime, happiness cannot be obtained until a banner is unfurled and the World Championship is brought back to the Queen City.
While pitchers and catchers reporting today may be one small step for man, it is one giant leap for the mankind of baseball.
