BRM’s Nominee for BBA's Walter Johnson Award: Clayton Kershaw

Dodgers lefty was our unanimous choice for Johnson Award.

Not sure how anyone could vote for any other pitcher as the NL’s top pitcher for the 2013 season. Even when the staff had the conversation about the NL’s top pitcher, it was quick and extremely obvious.

Blog Red Machine’s nominee for the BBA’s Walter Johnson Award nominee as the National League’s top pitcher is…

Clayton Kershaw – Los Angeles Dodgers

Kershaw will likely snag his second CY Young Award as well. For the season, he posted a record of 16-9, led all of baseball with an ERA of 1.83 and a WHIP of 0.915. It was the third consecutive season he’s led the NL in those two categories (ERA and WHIP). Kershaw’s 232 strikeouts led the National League as did his two shutouts. One of those shutouts came on Opening Day.

Also impressive was his triple slash against which was .195/.244/.277.

If WAR is a component you use to determine such, Kershaw’s fWAR of 6.5 and bWAR of 7.9 led all pitchers, too. His overall bWAR of 8.4 led the NL.

Top Three:
1. Clayton Kershaw, LAD
2. Adam Wainwright, STL
3. Francisco Liriano, PIT
