Brandon Phillips on the trading block?

Reports surfaced today that the Reds are not only planning to shop Brandon Phillips this off-season but that the team fully intends to trade the Gold Glove second baseman.

Blog Red Machine’s Steve Engbloom handed out Brandon Phillips’ grade for the 2013 year just three days ago. However, the Reds interest in parting ways with Phillips could be due to more than just his performance on the field.

Phillips ruffled some feathers in two separate incidents this past season. Phillips’ comments in July regarding his “slap in the face” contract, which pays him $72.5 million, didn’t sit well with Reds fans or CEO Bob Castellini. Later in the season, Phillips and Reds beat reporter C. Trent Rosecrans had a verbal beef in the locker room regarding tweets questioning Phillips’ on-base percentage.

With the World Series teams yet to even be determined the off-season has yet to really get into full swing. At the conclusion of the Fall Classic when teams start to really make roster changes and moves this will be something that Reds fans will want to keep their eyes out for as I’m sure rumors will continue to swirl whether the Reds trade Phillips or not.

If they can find someone who will take on that whale of a contract, and even worse attitude, go for it.

Dumb move, we reds fans love him.. There is almost more of his jerseys there then any other player. That’s a croc fans were mad at him for comments.. People need to wake up we all said things when we lost in games growing up and in our normal likes ..

Don’t speak for all Reds fans. You may love him. I definitely don’t.

I promise we’d miss his defense. Don’t give me crap about his one error vs. Pittsburgh. The whole team was done by then. Let’s not forget, Dusty jerked him around with his crass lineups way too much as well. I’d give him another year.

Like I said in my other comments. I don’t think the Reds have a choice other than Chapman to get the bopper they must have.

dont worry, with Frazier, Cozart, Mesoraco, Ludwick, Hamilton who’ll probably hit .220 in his first year and Uggla who hit .167 last year or random replacement player at 2nd. We’ll surely be in much better shape next year without Phillips. Our offense this year came down to four players, and two of them are gone now. But you know, Phillips is a jerk, like when he flew fans to SF or attends fans baseball games, what a jerk.
