My fondest of Reds memories came from the days of the Big Red Machine. I was extremely fortunate to have my early “baseball development” coincide with the greatness that Cincinnati produced.
Last year when a few of us from BRM were fortunate to attend a Reds game and receive a tour of Great American Ball Park and the Reds Hall of Fame, one of my favorite areas of the Res HOF was that of the Big Red Machine era. You saw the image of them. If that was the time you became a fan of the Cincinnati Reds, you couldn’t help but be in awe.
A little drive down memory lane for me and other Reds fans will now be in order.
Yesterday, the Reds issued a release that as part of Joe Morgan Weekend (Sept. 6 and 7), the Great Eight will all be at GABP. Yes, this includes MLB’s Hit King Pete Rose. All eight will appear at GABP at the same time for the first time.
Just for review, or maybe even a little education, the other members of the Great Eight in addition to Rose and Morgan…
During Saturday’s statue dedication, which will also be “Joe Morgan Day”, the Great Eight will participate. The time for the statue unveiling has been set for 10:00 AM on Saturday, Sept. 7. That night, Morgan will also deliver the game’s first pitch and the first 20,000 fans will be presented with a Joe Morgan T-shirt. Haven’t had one of those in a few years.
Beginning on Sept. 6 and on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during the month of September, the Reds Hall of Fame will provide a free Joe Morgan collectible sculpture with a full-price admission.
