Reds Trade Deadline: Too Quiet?

With the recent skid, Reds fans are either…

a. screaming for Reds GM Walt Jocketty to make a deal
b. growing extremely frustrated
c. writing off the season and awaiting the start of the NFL

These have been the most prevalent reactions I’ve seen on Twitter. Been seeing a lot of “c” as of late…

If you’re one waiting for the Reds to make a trade today, I fear you will either be disappointed by no deal or, if a trade is made, disappointed with the results.

There has been very little public info regarding who the Reds are/have been pursuing. That should surprise no one. Typically, the Reds like to keep lips as tight as possible. In 2012, who even thought the Reds were in on Jonathan Broxton?

Names linked with the Good Guys: Michael Young, Hunter Pence, Jesse Crain. No one player will take this team out of its current offensive funk or serve as a major upgrade to the bullpen. Young and Pence would help the currently sputtering offense, no question. Key word is help. Neither would be a cure. Crain is still on the DL, so there would be no immediate dividend there.

Just this morning, ESPN’s Tim Kurkjian said on Mike & Mike that the available players, according to executives, is the “weakest group they’ve seen in a long time”. Timmy also has thoughts on Pete Rose and possible reinstatement.

MLB Network will being a six-hour trade deadline special at 11 AM EDT. As part of their trade deadline coverage, you will see a social media ticker. MLBN’s insiders and experts will be using the hashtag #tradedeadline in their tweets so that you can stay on top of potential deals and rumors.

Yep. Adding that column to my TweetDeck.
