A few days ago, the Reds announced that Ryan Ludwick would begin his rehab assignment with the Dayton Dragons, Cincy’s Low-A affiliate in eh Midwest League. That day is now upon us as the Dragons will travel to Lansing this evening for a three-game series against the Lugnuts before returning to Fifth Third Field for a five-game homestand.
If you are a subscriber to MiLB.tv, all five games from that homestand will be available. The three games in Lansing will not be, but you can listen to them here.
On Opening Day, Ludwick suffered a separated shoulder in an attempt to slide into third base. Upon further evaluation, it was determined that Ludwick had also suffered a torn labrum, requiring surgery.
Some in Redsland were excited to see this, as on July 18, George Vogel of WLWT tweeted this…

Last season, Ludwick developed into a main cog in the Reds offense. Just a few numbers to throw out here.
Batting clean-up: .288/.384/.491, 8 HR, 29 RBI
Batting 6th: .255/.318/.539, 9 HR, 26 RBI
During Votto absence: .340/.404/.647, 12 HR, 36 RBI
It has been stated that when Ludwick returns to the Reds lineup, he will not be batting clean-up, but will be put in the #6 spot. If Ludwick can progress well during both his rehab and his return to the active roster, the Reds offense would certainly pick up some much needed steam.
UPDATE: Ludwick was 1-for-2 with a walk in the game as the Dragons lost, 7-1. Ludwick was the DH and was pulled in the top of the 8th.
