The DP from BP

Some fans that are not fans of the Reds may tire of the constant raving about Brandon Phillips and his defense. I think that may aimed at the fact he’s a Red or they simply don’t like BP the person.

Doesn’t matter though. Reds fans are truly blessed to see one of the most complete second basemen in the game today. What he pulled off on May 7 is one of the most phenomenal defensive plays we will ever witness from Phillips or any other player. I dare say, this is even better than the through-the-legs play.

The Reds hold a slim 3-2 lead over the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brew Crew have runners on first and second and one out. At the dish, Ryan Braun.

On a 3-2 offering from Sam LeCure, Braun sends a weak chopper up the middle. BP snares the ball with his bare hand as he is heading to the ground. Phillips touches second base – with his left knee – and throws across his body toward first base. Joey Votto takes the throw on a short hop. Double play and they honestly don’t get any better than this one.

Must see TV right here…
