Homer Bailey‘s no-hitter

You can’t have any type of top moments list and not have Bailey’s second career no-no be excluded. What made this no-hitter a little historic was two things:

– Bailey became the first MLB pitcher since his childhood idol Nolan Ryan to fire the league’s consecutive no-hitters.
– It was the first no-hitter ever pitched at Great American Ball Park.

An oddity in this is that with Bailey’s no-hitters, the first was on September 28 of the preceding year. Ryan, who pulled off the feat twice and last did so in 1974-1975 when he was a member of California Angels, threw his first of those consecutive MLB no-hitters on the date of September 28 of the previous season.

Can’t make up that stuff…
