For the second year in a row, Billy Hamilton has been selected to represent the Cincinnati Reds and teh US squad in the XM All-Star Futures Game. For Carlos Contreras, some may view hid addition to the World roster as a bit of a surprise.
After today’s action, Hamilton owns a .247 batting average with 49 steals in 58 attempts. His 49 thefts currently lead the International League.
Here’s Hamilton’s 2013 numbers:
Contreras, seen by some in a similar mold to Johnny Cueto, had spent the majority of his first five years within the Reds organization as a reliever. Prior to 2013, he had only started 18 of 108 games and none since 2010. This season in 15 starts, Contreras is only 3-7, but the owner of a respectable 3.72 ERA. Considering that it is widely believed that everyone hits in the Cal League does lend credence to that number.
Contreras and his 2013 numbers…
This year the game will be played at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets and the 2013 All-Star Game. The date of the game will be July 14, two days prior to the ASG.
