Zach Duke Inks Minor Deal with Reds

The Reds have inked former Pittsburgh Pirate, Arizona Diamondback, and as of late, Washington National Zach Duke to a minor league deal. He will be assigned to Louisville.

In 12 games (one start) with the Nationals, Duke was 1-1 with an 8.71 ERA and a 1.887 WHIP.

There’s three ways I can go with this.

One, as I mentioned the other day Greg Reynolds can opt out of his deal on Saturday. Should Reynolds elect to opt out, Duke could slide into his spot within the Bats rotation.

Second, what if there is a little more to the Sean Marshall injury that originally thought. Marshall has been on the DL twice. Dusty likes have two other lefties aside from Aroldis Chapman in the pen and with Marshall on the mend, it leaves only Manny Parra as the non-closing lefty.

Yep, Parra got tha tout in yesterday’s game and I’ll leave it at that.

And don’t get me started about how Chappy didn’t get into yesterday’s game…

Finally, maybe Duke could be an addition to the pen and a righty arm will be shipped to Louisville or elsewhere. Again, Baker would like that third lefty.

I honestly don’t wish for any of these three to be case.

This all being said, I recall another former Nats player being released and he latched on with the Good Guys. This happened last season. It was this guy to the right.

Yep, Xavier Paul.

Can’t think of many Reds fans that regret making that move. Maybe this will be another the works in our favor.

We can hope, right?
