Might see a few of these bats today. There is a significant chance of seeing some pink cleats. Even some pink sweatbands. Since 2006, game-used pink Louisville Sluggers will be auctioned exclusively on MLB.com to raise further funds for MLB Charities in support of the fight against breast cancer.
And I know you will see more than a few of the these as MLB

For the first time, MLB will use baseballs like the one you see above in games.
Also, for today, each team will have an Honorary Bat Girl. For the Reds, that honor goes to Josie Shuler. In August of 2008, she was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Since her diagnosis four and a half years ago, much has occurred in her life. On the morning of her surgery, Josie was informed that her mother had passed away. Didn’t make it any easier that her mother was living in the Phillipines.
Cancer has spread to her lungs and brain and Josie is currently undergoing trial chemo at UC and had undergone other rounds of chemo, brain radiation and breast radiation. Josie is an active volunteer for Komen Cincinnati and ACS just to name a couple of organizations in which she is currently active.
There is more to Josie’s story as well how she displays her love of the Reds on honorarybatgirl.com.
If you haven’t already, please check out the article on Reds.com regarding Sam LeCure and his biggest and first fan, his mother.
On behalf of the entire Blog Red Machine staff, we wish all mothers a Happy Mother’s Day.
