Raising Reds – 4/28/13: And We Have Runs!

(Photo Credit: Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports)

We actually have many runs. The issue is this: only one of the three teams in action won.

Once again, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos had weather issues forcing the postponement of one game and the cancellation of another. Tomorrow, both teams will once again attempt two, 7-inning games tomorrow as a doubleheader.

Remember doubleheaders? Long day, but we’re they ever fun. Seven-ish hours at the stadium? An excellent day to be had.

Yesterday’s results from the farm…

Louisville Bats

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
Lehigh Valley (10-13) 2 1 3 1 1 0 0 2 2 12 15 0
Louisville (10-14) 0 1 0 0 0 0 1 1 4 7 11 1

W: Miner (1-1, 5.19) ; L: Villarreal, P (0-2, 4.23)

Mike Hessman: 3-4, 2 R
Henry Rodriguez: 3-4, RBI (6)

In facing 16 Iron Pigs, Pedro Villarreal went 2.2 innings. In that time, he was touched for 6 runs on 8 hits. He also served up 3 home runs. He is now 0-2 and this was the first time this season Villarreal did not deliver a quality start. Actually, first outing where he allowed more than 3 runs and pitched less than 6 innings..

Next Game: 4/29/13 v. Lehigh Valley, 6:35 PM ET.

Bakersfield Blaze

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
Visalia (15-9) 0 1 0 2 0 0 0 0 0 3 8 4
Bakersfield (6-18) 6 5 0 3 0 0 0 0 X 14 17 0

W: Moran (1-0, 4.91) ; L: Winkler, K (1-3, 9.61)

Juan Perez: 4-5, RBI (9), R
Ryan Wright: 2-5, 2 RBI (8), R
Marquez Smith: 2-4, R
Juan Silverio: 2-5, RBI (7), 2 R
Yovan Gonzalez: 2-5, 2 BI (7), R
Juan Silva: 2-4, HR (1), 2 RBI (4), 2 R

Whatever frustration the Blaze built over a second seven-game losing streak was vented within the game’s first two innings. Bakersfield hit a total of 3 home runs and 12 of the 14 runs were earned even though the Rawhide defense made 4 errors.

In his first six game as a member of the Blaze, Smith has contributed with a triple slash of .333/.462/.762 with a pair of home runs and 3 RBI.

Next Game: 4/30/13 @ San Jose, 10:00 PM ET

Dayton Dragons

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
Burlington (8-11) 1 2 1 0 0 0 0 6 0 10 11 2
Dayton (7-16) 1 0 0 0 0 0 1 1 1 4 9 1

W: Keudell (2-1, 1.93) ; L: Diaz, P (0-1, 4.82)

Jeff Gelalich: 2-4, RBI (8), SB (8)

Another late inning where the opponent plates multiple runs hurt the Dragons. Heading into the top of the 8th, Dayton was trailing only by a margin of 4-2. All four Dragons pitchers were scored upon and starter Pedro Diaz (0-1) left after just two innings due to a blister.

Next Game: 4/29/13 v. Burlington, 7:00 PM ET.

Transactions

Indications are that Donald Lutz will get his first taste of the bigs. Lots of Twitter chatter about this – which I’m sure you can imagine – as it has been noted that Lutz will meet the team in St. Louis. In Pensacola, Lutz was going at a rate of 211/.294/.513 with 5 home runs.

Welcome to the Reds, BraunerHulk. May you smash plenty!

Yes, Chris Heisey appears to be headed to the DL.

Another Red on the DL. Go fig…
