Reds v Nats – 4/27/13 – Probables and Lineups

Surely, the runs have to come some time, right? You can look at the numbers and see the Reds are 4th in the NL in averaging 4.79 runs a game and 2nd in total runs with 115. That’s nice and all, but I think some fans – maybe even all fans – would take a couple of less runs in those double-digit games and add those onto totals from others.

It seems the inconsistency bug has taken full hold of the bats within the camp of the Good Guys again…

Reds – Mike Leake
2013: 1-0, 3.81 ERA, 1.346 WHIP (4 starts)
v. WAS: 3-2, 5.26 ERA, 1.398 WHIP (7 starts)
@ Nationals Park: 1-1, 4.66 ERA, 1.190 WHIP (3 starts)
Last appearance v. WAS: 4/6/13 (ND) – 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 4 SO

Leake is coming off back-to-back games in which he went 1-0 and allowed only 2 runs in 14 innings of work. He also struck out 12 opponents in those two outings while only walking a pair. That’s a stark contrast to his first two efforts of the season where Leake permitted 9 runs in 12 innings. Opponents hit .327 off of him in those two games.

2013: 1-3, 7.36 ERA, 1.964 WHIP (4 starts)
v. CIN: 2-3, 5.26 ERA, 1.115 WHIP (7 games, 6 starts)
@ Nationals Park: 1-2, 4.50 ERA, 1.292 WHIP (4 starts)
Last appearance v. CIN: 4/5/13 (L) – 4 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 5 SO

During the offseason, the Nationals signed Haren to a one-year, $13MM deal. So far, the Nats might be wondering what they got for that dough. In his four outings for 2013, Haren has yet to go 6 innings in any outing.

No Frazier today, huh? The last time the ToddFather had multiple hits in a game was on April 18 against the Marlins. Since then, he is 3-for-25 (.120 BA) in the 8 games in which he has played (7 starts). And in regards to Heisey, his batting average has been above the Mendoza line for only one day this season – after the 3rd game of the season – and he was right at .200.

I have a question about the left field situation posted on BRM’s Facebook page. Let us know your thoughts on it there.

While it’s early, the 1-7 on the road is a bit concerning.
