Raising Reds - 4/22/13: Bats Drop One Late, Marshall Update

Ever have that feeling that you let something get away? Ask Bats skipper Jim Riggleman about that. He’s gotta feel like his team let one get away that shouldn’t have.

Louisville Bats

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
Louisville (9-9) 0 0 0 0 0 1 3 0 0 4 8 0
Indianapolis (13-6) 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 3 5 8 0

W: Reid (3-0, 0.75) ; L: Hensley (0-1, 5.19)

Greg Reynolds: 6.1 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 SO

Sean Marshall pitched the first inning as he was on a rehab assignment. He threw 12 pitches with 8 for strikes and he was perfect, striking out two. Marshall could be activated today, but Dusty told Mark Sheldon that it could be longer before Marshall is activated. More on this at the end of this post.

Reynolds came out for the 2nd inning and performed much as he has for the season. The bullpen combo of Jose Arredondo and Clay Hensley allowed three runs in 1.1 innings and permitted 2 of 3 inherited runners to score as the Indians come from behind for the win.

Next Game: Tonight v. Gwinnett, 6:35 PM ET

Pensacola Blue Wahoos

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
Pensacola (8-9) 0 0 3 0 0 0 0 0 0 3 7 0

W: Smith, J (2-2, 6.62) ; L: Elias (0-2, 3.28) ; SV: Partch (4)

Steve Selsky: 2-4, RBI (7)
Ray Chang: 2-4, RBI (1), R
Josh Smith: 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 SO

Selsky, Chang and Brodie Greene drove in the only runs of the game,…and the only runs of the game in the Blue Wahoos 3rd. The arms took over from there as the trio of Smith, Chris Manno and Curtis Partch completely shut down the Generals’ offense.

Next Game: Tonight @ Jackson, 8:05 PM ET

Bakersfield Blaze

The Blaze were off last night. Next game: This afternoon @ High Desert, 4:05 PM ET

Dayton Dragons

Jesse Winker: 3-3, 2 RBI (7), R
Wes Mugarian: 3.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 3 SO

Ismael Guillon struggled once again with his control. He issued 6 walks in only 1.2 innings in this one. In his 4 starts this season (12.1 innings), Guillon has walked 22 while striking out 21. In his last two starts, Guillon has a BB/SO of 15/8. Mugarian came in to prevent the Lugnuts from further scoring.

Next Game: This morning @ Lansing, 10:35 AM ET

Marshall Update

Back to the Marshall situation. Here’s how Baker described how rehab assignments, in the case of Marshall that is, should work.

“There could be some more [rehab games],” Baker said. “Usually one is not enough. You’ve got to do a day in between, then usually a back-to-back. We’ll see how he comes out of this.”

Doesn’t sound like any time soon, but we’ll see.
